Process Unit

This project brings together opportunities to use all of the techniques learned for exposure cooling, capture and control for isolation, ground spill foam application and extinguishment in a multi-level, fully involved structural fire. This project is representative on many industrial units with multiple levels of structure for access to control loops, valves and vessels.

The students will initially be forced to control and extinguish a ground spill fire using direct and indirect foam application and then maintain the foam blanket for vapor suppression. They will then execute a coordinated plan that calls for multiple hose teams to make entry into the unit with the specific purpose of gaining capture, control and extinguishment of three dimensional as well as pressurized vapor fires by securing isolation valves.

Upon successful extinguishment, the students will then retreat from the catwalks and descend the stairways while maintaining control of the hose lines, by ascending one or more stairways and navigate narrow catwalks.
