In this project, the student will be challenged to apply all the fire fighting techniques learned thus far on an evolution with LPG and three dimensional liquid spill fires, multiple fuel release points as well as multiple exposures of piping and vessels.
This is a typical configuration in many industrial locations where pumps are used to move process liquids to or from elevated storage vessels. As with any pump, the mechanical seal or packing gland is subject to wear and leaks. These leaks often times find an ignition source leading to fire. The intent is for the student to learn the proper application and importance of cooling water on adjacent structures and vessels using fixed or portable monitors as well as the proper fire fighting techniques for isolation and control of pressurized hydrocarbon liquid fires.
The project is broken down into two main parts, Pump Seal I and Pump Seal II that can be burned separately or simultaneously.
