Storage Tanks
In any large petrochemical facility, storage tanks for various hydrocarbons and chemicals are a necessity. Unfortunately, these tanks are subject to exposure to the elements and as such often fall victim to lightening strikes resulting in fire. Proper foam application as well as cooling of the tank involved and any of the surrounding tanks is of the utmost importance in order to successfully extinguish the fire while avoiding catastrophic failure and release of the product.
Depending on the product involved, the tank design and any fixed fire fighting systems that may be available, different application techniques of foam may need to be considered. Direct and indirect surface application, subsurface application and foam chamber application techniques are demonstrated and taught on this project which consists of one 20’ diameter tank and one 40’ diameter tank.
Fixed systems as well as portable equipment are provided and can be used in the learning process.
